HOW CAN I HELP?

Updated: Jul 9, 2019

Imagine the world we would create if this is the first thing we asked?

Not what’s wrong, not what’s the problem, just how can I help.

-

We have so much to offer each other. How often do you hold back afraid your offer will be rejected? How often do you reject help when offered?

-

We’re told asking for help or needing help is weakness. Pull up your bootstraps and figure it out we say.

-

I’m a huge proponent of being empowered and taking control over your life. We should all be active participants in each and every day. But asking for or accepting help is powerful.

-

Human beings have a natural need for each other, for connection, to be acknowledged by another. I think this is our greatest asset.

-

There’s something about being seen in any circumstance we are going through. It’s not about pity, it’s about empathy.

-

Being the helper is not about being taken advantage of or being a doormat. It’s about connecting with the need of another human being.

-

There is incredible bravery in asking for or offering help. Both sides must show a level of vulnerability in their intention. Both sides are open to rejection.

-

If we can stand powerfully without turning away from the needs of another, we can radically change someone’s life. Sound too dramatic? Good. It is dramatic.

-

As we near the end of another year, I can’t help but reflect on all the people in my life that have helped me. It’s dramatic, astounding, and overwhelming.

-

I was the rejecter of help. I was the one who wouldn’t let someone give me that gift. I could do it myself.

-

The past few years of allowing people in and allowing them to help has transformed me. It’s been both difficult and tremendously rewarding.

-

I’ve never doubted the good in people. I have always believed people are amazing and do amazing things in the ordinary and seemingly mundane.

-

How much joy could we create in another person by simply asking HOW CAN I HELP? And how much joy can you create in yourself by accepting?

-

“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world awaits in the darkness for the light that is you. – L.R. Knost
